For our providers to perform this analysis your skin needs to be clean of dirt, oils and makeup. Additionally, safety is Dr. Holland’s priority and removing makeup prior to in-office treatments aids us in providing you with safer, more efficient care. For your convenience, we have a face washing station available if you are unable to arrive with a clean face.
what to expect
Throughout the blepharoplasty procedure journey, patients can expect personalized care and support from Dr. Holland and our team. Upper eyelid procedures are typically performed awake under local anesthesia in our office, while lower eyelids or a combination of both are performed at an accredited ambulatory center under general anesthesia. Afterward, patients have follow-up appointments for monitoring and care, with Dr. Holland accessible for any urgent issues. Recovery involves managing discomfort and swelling, with gradual improvement in eyelid appearance over several weeks. Patients can expect guidance, communication, and support throughout, leading to enhanced confidence and satisfaction.
Things to consider before having blepharoplasty surgery:
Nausea can occur following any surgical procedure and generally passes by the first postoperative day.
Maximum discomfort will occur the first few days after surgery and then will subside gradually.
Occasionally, the eyes are bandaged for the first night.
Expect temporary swelling of the eyelids, tightness of lids, bruising, dryness, burning, and itching of eyes.
Dr. Holland may recommend Natural Tears (OTC eyedrops) or Lacrilube (OTC ophthalmic ointment) as part of your post op treatment.
For the first few weeks, you may experience excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, and double or blurred vision.
You may have difficulty closing your eyes when you sleep.
Bruising and swelling of the eyelids may last 1-2 weeks.
Healing is a gradual process and your scars may remain slightly pink for 6 months or more.
